Obituary of Alfred Santana

Alfred "Al" Santana born May 12, 1954. He was in the marching band at Alisal High School and graduated from Alisal High School in 1973. Thanks to his beloved sister, Alice, for her own musical passion and influence along with the support of his parents; Al started playing drums at a very early age and began playing professionally in bands, at age 13. Al had many musical influences. Jazz drummer, Buddy Rich, Louie Bellson, Linda Ronstandt and Ringo Starr, just to name a few. Al was an avid Beatle's fan since the night he saw them appear on the 'Ed Sullivan Show'. He would spend hours in the garage playing his drums along to Beatle records. But, Al's drumming talent could never be pigeonholed into one style, he had that certain "finesse and dexterity" , and once he got behind those drums, he could play anything. Al also had an eclectic musical taste and was always interesed in new musical projects and loved playing with other enthusiastic musicians. Over the years, Al worked and traveled in numerous bands. He also contributed his talent on musical projects with many other talented musicians. He spent three months playing drums on the world's largest cruise ship "Grandeur of the Seas", but for Al, home was where his heart was. When Al wasn't playing drums, he would enjoy spending time and collecting Beatle's memoribilia with his long-time girlfriend and "Beatle Buddy" , Judy Holland and her son, Dino. He was a wonderful son and caregiver to his mother, Josephine and always put her needs ahead of anything else. Al loved all animals, especially his numerous cats & dog, Lily. Al was a man who was confident, but without an ego; he wore his heart on his sleeve and was never shy or reluctant to give someone a hug and tell them that he loved them.He will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him. Al is survived by mother Josephine Santana of Salinas brother Julio Santana of Salinas David Santana of Salinas nieces and nephews Tommy , Eddie, and Gina Espinosa Alan & Eddie Santana along with other numerous family members Monday October 15, 2007 , 1 PM - 9 PM at Healey Mortuary Click for Map and Directions Monday October 15, 2007 , 7 PM at Healey Mortuary Click for Map and Directions Tuesday October 16, 2007 , 11 AM at Healey Mortuary Click for Map and Directions
