Obituary of Ruby Smith

Ruby Lee Smith of Salinas, went to her heavenly home on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at the age 80. She was born on August 23, 1930 in El Dorado, Oklahoma. She moved to Salinas at the age of 11 along with her mother, Lucille and three brothers, OD, Virgil and Harold "Joe" Hughes. In her early years, she helped raise her brothers while her mother worked to provide for the family. Her mother later married Glen Hall, a loving step-father. Ruby met her life-long partner, Carl G. Smith, a young man recently out of the Navy in February 1947. They were married just three months later on May 29th, and lived a long and happy life together. Ruby and Carl loved to dance and surround themselves with the many friends they met through various social activities and groups. They enjoyed traveling and being outdoors. They spent many years as members of the Salinas Valley Boat Club and Trailer Club. Ruby was an avid reader and enjoyed craftwork, jigsaw puzzles and going to garage sales. She was a faithful member of the Optimisses Secret Pal Club for many years. Ruby's greatest joy was having all of her family around as much as possible. She was a loving and dedicated Wife, Mother, and Grandmother, as well as a wonderful Sister-in-Law. Ruby was a valued employee of the Schilling McCormick Spice Company for 14 years. She was a quick friend too, and deeply touched all those she met. She will be deeply missed by all. She is survived by her Husband of 63 years, Carl G. Smith of Salinas, Son Randy Gerald (Pam) Smith of San Diego, Daughter Janet Lynn (Smith) Martin of Salinas, Grandchildren Cristi Leanne (Mike) Hibbs of Salinas, Alicia (Eddie) Estrada of Salinas, Heather Graziano, Michelle and Joey Pendergrass all of San Diego, four Great-Grandchildren Ashely, Haley and Taylor Hibbs, and Madison Estrada all of Salinas, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her Mother, Step-Father and all three Brothers. Visitation will be held on Wednesday Dec. 1 1-9pm at Healey Mortuary 405 N. Sanborn Road Salinas, CA 93905. Funeral Services on Thursday Dec. 2 11am at Healey Mortuary. Interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery 18200 Damian Way Salinas, CA 93907.
