Obituary of Donald Gunderson
Donald M. Gunderson, Sr. 79, of Salinas, passed away on November 30, 2012 at home. He was born on January 2, 1933 in San Francisco, California.
Donald was enlisted in the U.S. Army in March, 1950, He completed boot camp on Fort Ord, CA, and was sent to Korea in September, 1950, after war broke out.
He was awared the Purple Heart, and the Purple Heart with three Battle Stars; the Korean Service War medal, Combat Infantry medal, the National Defense medal, Occupation of Japan medal, and the United Nations Korean Service medal.
Donald enoyed traveling, hunting and fishing. He especially loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by
his wife, Barbara I. Gunderson
daughters,
Betty (Gary) Purcell,
Bernice Romero,
Annette (Ed) Reeder
and Alberta (John) VanNest
sons,
Don Gunderson and
Rich (Cindy) Gunderson
13 grandchildren and
23 great-grandchildren
along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins
and other loving family.
He is preceded in death by
his first wife, Betty L. Gunderson
and his daughter, Clara Lynch.
Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, December 4, 2012 1-9pm with a Catholic blessing at 3pm, all at Healey Mortuary 405 N. Sanborn Rd. Salinas, CA 93905.
Graveside Committal with Military Honors on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 10am at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery 32053 W. McCabe Rd. Gustine, CA 95322.
