Obituary of Fredrick McAlister

Fredrick C. McAlister Sr., 77, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family in Salinas on New Years Day. Fred was born in Carmel to J.D. and Octavia McAlister on August 24, 1935. He was a life-long Monterey County resident. Fred was a decendant of a pioneer Monterey family. He enjoyed reminising with his lifelong friend Horace Ferrante about the early days of growing up in the 40's & 50's on Larkin St. in Monterey. Dad loved watching his children, grand children, and great-grandchildren carry on the family tradition of camping, fishing, and story telling around the family barbeques or to anyone who would listen. Fred joined the Marine Corps in 1954 and served his country proudly. He was a 15-year member of the Pacific Grove Volunteer Fire Department. He was active in the Pacific Grove-New Monterey Lions Club, the Salinas Elks Lodge 614 and the American Legion Post 31.Fred is survived by Betty, his wife of 53 years; son Fred Jr. (Lesli) of Salinas; son Bryan of Pacific Grove; daughter Lisa (Jeff) Bentson of Clovis. Fred is also survived by four grandchildren and three great- grandchildren.Fred also leaves behind his beloved sister, Ellen (Anthony) Moltini of Monterey. Dad will be missed.
