Command Sergeant Major Sancho Justo Manzano, 88, lifelong resident of Salinas, passed away on June 19, 2018 in Salinas. He was born on September 5, 1929 in the Philippines. Sancho was a career Solider who served during the Vietnam War for three tours and was part of the Green Beret Special Forces. Sancho received the Monterey County Veteran of the Year award in 2003 and 2014. He was a life member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, DAV #101 and Retired Enlisted Association, other memberships include; National Association of Uniformed Services, Knights of Columbus Council #5140, Green Beret. Sancho was a parishoner of Madonna del Sasso, where he also served as a Lay Minister.
Sancho is survived by his sons, Sancho J. Manzano Jr. of Sierra Vista, AZ, Roger Manzano of San Diego and Larry Manzano of Salinas, daughter, Midori Penamante Albinger of Tacoma, WA, brothers, Patricio Manzano of Hawaii, sisters, Dominga Arquero, Estefania Labampa and Pacita Arbitrario all of the Philippines, along with numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Anastacia D. Manzano, daughter, Leilani Gardner and brother, Alejandro Manzano.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2018 1-9pm and on Sunday, July 15, 2018 1-9pm with a Rosary vigil at 7pm all at Healey Mortuary 405 N. Sanborn Rd Salinas, CA 93905.
Funeral Mass will take place on Monday, July 16, 2018 1pm at Madonna del Sasso Church 320 E. Laurel Dr. Salinas, CA 93906.
Burial with full Military Honors will follow at the Queen of Heaven Cemetery 18200 Damian Way Salinas, CA 93907.
