Obituary of Maria Guadalupe Sotelo

Maria Guadalupe Curiel-Sotelo was born to Justino Curiel and Maria Trinidad Zepeda on January 30, 1939 in Ameca, Jalisco. She was the eldest of 12 siblings not including 2 adoptive siblings. Her adaptive sister was a high school class mate who was brought into the family after losing her family per Maria’s request to her parents. 

 

As a young girl Maria or Lupe, as she was called by all, grew up racing horseback with the local kids, practicing rifle shooting in her backyard and swimming in the local stream. She loved the freedom of her youth and her homeland.

 

Lupe graduated from La Escuela Normal Superior de Jalisco and went on to become a teacher. Years later she met and married Bill N. Sotelo in Arizona and had three children- Maria Leonor Sotelo, Angelica Sotelo and Miguel Angel Sotelo. She is survived by 9 grand children and 1 great grandchild. She was a very kind, giving and loving person, and would make everyone feel welcomed. She had a big heart, and was greatly loved by all.

Lupe was a heart transplant recipient for nearly 20 years.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 19, 2018 1-9pm with a Rosary vigil at 7pm, all at Healey Mortuary 405 N. Sanborn Rd Salinas, CA  93905.

Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, July 20, 2018 10am at Madonna del Sasso Church 320 E. Laurel Dr. Salinas, CA  93906.

Burial to follow services at the Queen of Heaven Cemetery 18200 Damian Way Salinas, CA  93907.
