Obituary of Daniel R. Rios Sr.

Daniel Rios, Sr., 94, longtime resident of Salinas, Ca, passed away peacefully on Thursday November 29, 2018 while being surrounded by his loving family. Daniel was born July 21, 1924 in Guanajuato, Mexico. Daniel partook in the Bracero Program that was created by both the United States and Mexican government during the World War II era. Daniel, a first-generation farm worker, seized the opportunity to work under a contract job in the United States during a time where many Mexican immigrants traveled to the United States in pursuit of the American Dream. Daniel was a very diligent hard-working man. 

Daniel partook as a member of the Union de Campesinos, who were supportive of the UFW movement and had the opportunity to march beside Union leader and activist Cesar Chavez. During that duration, Daniel worked long and hard in excruciating working conditions in order to provide for his family. Daniel traveled back and forth from Mexico and the United States and eventually brought his entire family across the border in 1968. In doing so, Daniel paved a foundation in the United States in which enabled his children an abundance of opportunities and a better life. 

Daniel worked for Inter-Harvest and Sun Harvest companies. For many years, Daniel loved family outings, Easter barbeques at Toro Park, spending time with his friends at Kristy’s Donuts, viewing Boxing and Baseball (an avid Dodgers fan), listening to Mariachis, and most of all taking advantage of opportunities to spend time with his loving family. He was very well loved, admired, and respected by his friends and most importantly his family. Daniel is a parishioner of Cristo Rey Catholic Church in Salinas.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Eugenia Rios, his parents, sister Sanjuana, and grandaughter Vanessa Ramirez.

He is survived by his brothers ,Ricardo, Jose,,sisters, Paulina,Alfonsa, daughters: Blanca (Javier), Rosa (Eleuterio), Elvia (Jose), Marisa (Ted), Ymelda, Antonia, Patricia, Teresa, and sons, Gonzalo (Connie), and Daniel Jr (Beatriz), 21 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Monday, Dec. 3, 2018 1-9pm with a Rosary vigil at 6pm, all at Healey Mortuary 405 N. Sanborn Rd Salnas, CA  93905.

Funeral Mass willt take place on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2018 10am at Cristo Rey Catholic Church 240 Calle Cebu Salnas, CA  93901.

Burial to follow services at the Garden of Memories Cemetery 850 Abbott St. Salinas, CA  93901.
