Obituary of Samuel Ross Gattis

Samuel Ross Gattis, 73, long time resident of Salinas, passed away Thursday, December 13, 2018, peacefully in his home.

 

He was born January 10, 1945 in Charleston, Arkansas to Harvey R. Gattis and Jimmie L. Abernathy. Sam received his barber’s license in 1966 in Fresno, CA and proudly owned Samuel’s Barbershop where he faithfully cut hair for 52 years.

 

He served in the U.S. Army, and was honorably discharged in 1972. He was a member of the American Legion Post 31 for many years; however, in recent years he was active at the American Legion Post 593. He enjoyed and took pride in fishing, traveling, and most recently enjoyed cruising in his corvette.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents Harvey R. Gattis and Jimmie L. Abernathy.

 

He leaves behind daughters Shannon Gattis-Hermosillo (Gilbert), Sheena Zearley (Kenneth), Shelley Gattis-Gomez (Alex). Grandchildren Kayla and Noah Hermosillo, Austin and Alexis Zearley, Anthony and Alliyah Gomez.

 

Visitation will be held Friday, December 28, 2018 from 1-9 p.m. at Healey Mortuary 405 N. Sanborn Rd., Salinas, CA 93905.

 

Funeral Services will take place on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Healey Mortuary.

 

Cremation and private military honors ceremony will be held at the California Central Coast Veterans Cemetery, at a later date.
