Obituary of Gloria Rodriguez

Gloria Hermila ‘Mila’ Flores Rodriguez passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at her home in Salinas, CA on Saturday, July 18, 2020. She was born on February 23, 1956 in Mocorito, Sinaloa, Mexico to Arturo A. Flores and Gloria Castro. She graduated from Ceres High School in Ceres, CA in 1974. After dating the love of her life Ramiro Rodriguez for 5 years where they enjoyed going to dances, dining with friends, and cruising in the light blue 1969 Dodge Charger, they married on May 1, 1976 in San Luis Rio Colorado, Sonora, Mexico. She was a long time resident of Monterey County for over 45 years. Gloria worked for various orchard and agriculture companies in the Modesto, CA and Salinas Valley from 1973 through 1992. In 1993 she returned to Hartnell College for teaching. She worked at various schools in the Salinas community through 2008. She guided students and enjoyed coordinating parent workshops. She enjoyed cooking, attending many celebrations with family and friends, attending concerts, going to the movies and dining. It brought her joy to sing along with mariachis at family gatherings. Her favorite saying was ‘are you free willy’ which meant if you were available to get together with her for dinner or to attend a movie premier later that day. She was so generous in that if you visited her, she would not let you leave until she made you something to eat. We will miss the pan dulce she would drop off. We hope we are lucky enough to someday join her at the newest and prettiest casino in heaven.

She is survived by her husband Ramiro B. Rodriguez; son Andy Rodriguez; daughter Gloria Oliva Rodriguez Cavazos, son-in-law Albert Cavazos; grandchildren Daniel Richard and Miranda Celeste Cavazos; her mother Gloria Flores; sister Cristina Garcia; brothers Adelelmo, Ricardo, Art, and Javier Flores; two nieces, six nephews; and many uncles, aunts and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father Arturo Flores.

The Rodriguez family wishes to thank all of Gloria’s family and friends that held her in prayer during her illness and for all of their love and friendship they demonstrated to her all of the time. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 26, 2020 at Healey Mortuary from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. An outdoor church service will be held on Monday, July 27 at Sacred Heart Church, Salinas, 1:30 pm.
