Noel Douglas

Obituary of Noel J. Douglas

Noel J. Douglas ,87, long-time resident of Salinas, passed away on September 29.  He left us peacefully, surrounded by family.

Noel, a native of Mississippi, moved to Salinas in 1953.   He was retired from the floor covering business.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Clara. Two daughters, Debra Stephens of Sonora. CA, and Beverly Buck and son-in-law Tom Buck of Goodyear, AZ. Seven grandchildren Leslie Buck Flessner/Mark, Jillian Coplan/Peter, Erika Goldson/Erik,  Blake Johansen/Kaitlynn, Jacob Douglas/Caellin, Joey Douglas/Bethany, and Alissa Douglas. Twelve great-grandchildren. Two sisters Clara Walker of Pontotoc, MS and Laura Casey of San Jose, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, one sister, grandson Matthew Douglas Johansen, and his son Alan Joe Douglas.

Noel enjoyed camping and trips in his RV.  His favorite hobby was fishing either out of Moss Landing on his boat, the “Alan Joe”,  at Lake San Antonio, or Lake Don Pedro.  He always said his best catch was his wife.

He had little formal education, but was a master in areas that really counted including common sense, a strong work ethic, and family values. He was always happiest with a grandchild on his knee.

We will remember him for his “Papa-isms”—sayings that usually made no sense.  But the one we all understood and heard often was “Gimme some sugar”.

His five year old great granddaughter asked “How will Papa know we love him if he’s in heaven?”  We know because love never dies.

We love and miss you Papa. You’ve worked hard and taught us well.  You’ve earned your rest.

Services are delayed at this time.

Donations may be made in his memory to VNA Hospice, P.O. Box 2480, Monterey, CA 93942
