Dora Dominguez

Obituary of Dora Dominguez

Dora Dominguez, loving mother and grandmother, passed away shortly after midnight on Sunday, January 17, 2021. She was born on December 19, 1945 in Salinas, California.

As a child she was raised in Salinas and Mexico and graduated from Lidia Patterson in El Paso, Texas, class of 1963. She held jobs as a court clerk and translator which required much traveling to various states, ESL programs in education, and her long time career with the federal government in which she retired after 40 years of civil service.

Dora had a love for sports. Her favorite teams were the Oakland A's, San Francisco 49ers, and Golden State Warriors. She enjoyed attending games or watching and recording all the games at home. She looked forward to the Olympic Games, especially figure skating which was her favorite. Her hobbies included swimming, traveling to vacation destinations such as Acapulco, Puerto Vallarta, Hawaii, Mexico City, and her favorite place to celebrate her birthday was a weekend get-a-way to San Francisco. She loved meeting with her Bunco and Canasta groups and gathering with her friends. She was always listening to her favorite music, Golden Oldies, while at home or in the car. She attended church on a regular basis and was active in the community in volunteering and fund raising activities for school, PTA meetings, and Booster Club. As a single mother, raising two children she still managed to find time to be involved in school activities. She loved her grandchildren and attending their sporting events and activities brought her much joy.

Dora is survived by her sons Gerardo (Janeth) Dominguez and Diego (Natasha) Dominguez. Grandchildren Donovan, Gwyneth, Quentin, Ava, and Natalie Dominguez. Siblings: Jorge Mendoza, Julieta (Salvador) Diaz, Diana (Jose) Martinez, cousin/best friends Rebecca Mier and Benny Anguiano, and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and close friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Julieta and Heliodoro Mendoza, and nephews Gabriel Diaz, and Tyler Anguiano.

Among many things she will be remembered as a wonderful mother, doting grandmother, the matriarch of her immediate and extended family, loving friend, mentor, and kind and caring person. She will be greatly missed by all.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday February 20th at 10am, Northminster Presbyterian Church, 315 E Alvin Dr. in Salinas. For safety precautions services will be in the church parking lot drive-in style or available via website streaming.
