Obituary of Carmen Raya De La Torre

Carmen R. De La Torre was born on February 26, 1931 to Andrea Arredondo and Antonio Raya. She left our world peacefully on January 29, 2022. She will be missed by her children - Valerie Torres, Adrian De La Torre, Albert De La Torre, and Phillip De La Torre, 24 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, her sister Rose Vasquez, and countless family members and friends. She will be met in heaven by her husband Ruben G. De La Torre, her sons Ruben H. De La Torre, Ruben De La Torre Jr., her daughter Judith Madrigal, her grandson Christopher J. Torres, her sisters Lucy Ramirez, Mary Torres-Gil, and Cora Torres, Esther P. Raya and her brothers Sacramento Raya, Jess Raya, Joe Raya, Tony Raya, Angel Raya.

Carmen worked tirelessly to support her six children, and worked at the D’arrigo Brothers packing shed in Castroville for 35 years. Carmen spent her time in her garden, she loved all things green, and never laid eyes on a flower she did not love. She was a strong, loving, and hardworking woman who showed her love through pots and pans and delicious meals. She loved attending family reunions, and taking “samples” of plants from shopping centers’ landscaped areas to propagate at home.

Carmen was the foundation for her entire family and will be missed very much. Please join us for her services. A viewing will be held at her home located at 10560 Pomber St., Castroville, CA on February 3, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. with a rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be held the following day at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Refuge Church in Castroville, CA.

All are welcome at Carmen’s Celebration of Life Party following her services at her home.
