Obituary of Melissa "Mo" Castillo

On Saturday, July 23rd, 2022 Melissa “Mo” Castillo lost her battle with cancer. If you know Mo, you know she fought as hard as she could until the very end, just like she said she would. Melissa was born on November 9th, 1981 in Salinas , CA where she resided until god called her home. Melissa is the eldest of four siblings. Melissa was passionate about many things in life but her first love was softball and that shined through her coaching days with Salinas Storm. During her entire battle Melissa never lost her sense of humor, compassion for others, or hope. Her devotion and love for her team was apparent during her battle because she never missed a game. Through all her trials and tribulations during her battle Mo always made sure everyone else was ok before herself, which speaks volumes to her true character.

Melissa knew how to brighten up any room she walked into and left a lasting impression everywhere she went. Melissa’s famous words were, “I got you.” Which we can all say she truly did. She was always there to help when anyone needed it, wether it was a piece of advice or just some support, she was there with open arms and honesty. She was always one call or text away and made sure you knew that. She could make you laugh on your toughest days and wanted nothing but the best for people. Her big heart always saw the good in everyone, which is why she is loved by so many today.

Melissa enjoyed many things: from coaching, road trips, Rodeo, playing bingo, reggae concerts, or watching her “boys” The Dallas Cowboys; but most importantly, she enjoyed making memories and joking with ones she loved. If Melissa wasn’t at the softball field, she was buying something for one of her nieces or nephews. She had a special bond with each and every one of them, with a story to follow. Melissa was truly an inspiration to many. She was a devoted daughter, granddaughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, coach and friend. Her infectious laugh, sense of humor, wise words, and smile will be greatly missed.

Melissa, your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure, you are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.

She is now reunited with her grandma, Rachel;  other grandparents, and cousin; JJ. She is survived by her mother, Virgina; father, Hector; brothers, Ricky, Esteban, and Andres. As well as,  numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
