Obituary of Abel Hernandez

Abel Hernandez passed away on Friday, August 5, 2022 at the young age of 48. He was born on July 4, 1974 in Mexico City to Jose Hernandez and Maria Guadalupe Alba Muñoz. Abel moved to California at the age of 15 and lived in Los Angeles and Watsonville before settling in Salinas. 

Abel was known for his calming persona and contagious good energy. He was kind, loving, and a selfless soul. He truly cherished spending time with his family. Even the smallest get togethers meant so much to him. He loved spontaneous outdoor adventures, especially to Big Sur. He enjoyed fishing and going to the beach. If Abel wasn’t outdoors he was in the kitchen or at the BBQ pit with a chela in hand and a smile on his face. Holidays were his favorite, from cooking the turkey on thanksgiving to making tamales on Christmas, he was always in the kitchen. He loved to have a good time and loved all things music. He had a song for every occasion. He listened to every type of genre from Corridos to Country, he loved it all. He loved baseball and went on to teach his children the love he had for the sport. 

Abel’s pride and joy were his children. He often talked about how proud he was of each of them and how complete he felt when they were together. They were truly his biggest blessings. 

Although he left us unexpectedly, his loving memory will live on. As he would say “don’t cry because I am gone, smile because I was here to build all these memories that will forever be with you”.

Abel, We love you to infinity. 

Abel is preceded in death by his older brother, Jose Luis Hernandez and he is survived by his sons Abel and Andrew; his daughters Kiara and Kiana; his two grandchildren; his mother, Lupe; his siblings, Javier, Rosa, Roberto, Pati, Olga, and Julio Hernandez; numerous nieces and nephews including his eldest nephew, Juan Carlos Perez and dog Milo who he loved so much. 

A Memorial Service will be held at the Healey Mortuary, 405 N. Sanborn Rd., Salinas, Ca 93905 on Saturday, August 27, 2022 from 10am-2pm. Rosary will begin at 11 am followed by the Priest’s Blessing at 12 pm.
