Obituary of William Henry Staples, Jr.

William Henry Staples, Jr., 96

William (Bill) Henry Staples, Jr., 96, passed away on February 10th, 2023 at his home in Marina, California. Bill was born December 4th, 1926 in Oliver Springs, Tennessee, the first of 3 siblings to his parents Janine and William Sr. He spent the first 25 years of his life living in Oliver Springs until he joined the army in 1952. Bill served in the Army until 1974 when he retired as a Staff Sergeant and then spent the next 20 years working at the Post Office in Marina. Upon his final retirement, he enjoyed gardening, spending time with his grandchildren, and becoming well-versed in all things technology. William is survived by his loving wife, Frieda Staples of Marina, California, his son William Oscar of Tacoma, WA, and by his grandchildren: Sharissa of Marina, Ailene of New Orleans, LA, Billy of Monterey, Ronnie of Salem, OR, Matt and Andrea of Fairfax, VA, and by his stepdaughter Monika of Fairfax, VA.  He was predeceased by his parents, sisters Reita and Eunice, and daughter Barbara.

Bill was a lover of animals, as he spent his last years very close to his “grand-dog” Denzel and his bird Hansi, boxing, and making people laugh. Although seemingly stoic, Bill had an incredible sense of humor and he will be immensely missed by all that knew him. Bill and Frieda spent the last 63 years together and built a partnership that withstood many challenges but also cultivated a house that was filled with an enormous amount of love. He served as a father figure to many, most importantly to his granddaughter Sharissa, who was his caretaker until the end. His family will be holding a service at the Central Coast Veterans Cemetery in Seaside on February 27th at 9:30 am with a reception to follow at Bayonet at 10:30 am. Bill will continue to be loved endlessly and missed beyond comprehension
