Obituary of Arnold Steele

Life Legacy Arnold E. Steele, passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at the age of 89. He was born in Estherville, Iowa on June 21, 1925. Arnold served in WWII as a FMF Navy Corpsman attached to a Marine Night Fighter squadron WMF (N) 541, during the invasion of Peleliu. Upon returning to the states, he served as a Army Reservist. He retired with the rank of Major after 20 years of service. Arnold was a member of the Marine Corps Leaque, Monterey Bay Detachment 711 and the American Legion. Arnold had three siblings, Bill McGrath, Sally and Katherine. He graduated from the University of Iowa. He was heard saying "Go Hawkeyes" his entire life. Arnold married Joan Faye Heckert on December 4, 1954. They had 3 boys, Ronald, Randy and Rodger.Arnold and Joan moved to California in 1958 and worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture for over 35 years. His work in the field of Entomology took him around the world studying and teaching. He specialized in the research of Nematodes. Arnold is survived by sons, Randy (Andrea) Steele Rodger Steele grandchildren, Toby (Robin) Crowley; Cody, Kami and Kieran Steele great-grandchildren, Jordan, Tyler, Brenna, Summer, Madison, and Aubree Crowley brother, Bill sisters, Katherine and Sally Arnold is preceded in death by, his loving wife, Joan Steele in May, 2009 and his son, Ronald Steele in 1989 Funeral Services with full Military Honors will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at 10am at the Healey Mortuary Chapel 405 N. Sanborn Rd. Salinas, CA 93905. Interment will follow services at 2:00pm at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery 32053 W. McCabe Rd. Gustine, CA 95322.
