Obituary of William Bradley

William H. "Hub" Bradley, 83, passed away Sunday, November 8,2009 in Salinas after a brief illness. Mr. Bradley was born January 16, 1926 in Clinton, Arkansas to Sam and Mary Bradley. Minutes after his birth he was joined by his twin brother and best buddy, Tommie. The family moved to Salinas in 1943, and later established Bradley and Sons Upholstery, which remained in business for 60 years. Mr. Bradley also owned Hub's Upholstery for many years, establishing a reputation for quality workmanship and friendly service. Mr. Bradley joined the United States Navy in January 1944, serving on submarines based out of Pearl Harbor. A few years before his death, Mr. Bradley was escorted back to Pearl Harbor by his daughters, Donna and Tammy, along with their daughters. The Commander of the Sub Base sent a van to pick up Mr. Bradley and the girls at their hotel and gave them a tour of a modern submarine. Mr. Bradley was profoundly touched by the gesture. After the war, Mr. Bradley worked for 60 years in the Upholstery business. He married the love of his life, Joan (Boyd) Bradley in 1948 and together they had four children. Along the way, he and his brother obtained private pilots licenses and enjoyed many years flying throughout California and the western states. He also enjoyed riding Harley Davidson motorcycles, owning many in the 1960s. Throughout his nearly 84 years of life, Mr. Bradley displayed a zest for living and a love of people that he passed along to four children,eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild (and one en route). Mr. Bradley was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 48 years, Joan Bradley, along with his parents, Sam and Mary Bradley, his sister, Dorothy, and his brother, Tommie. He is survived by his children Donna (Lloyd) Julien of Rio Del, Allen (Pam) Bradley, Tammy (Shahram) Farahmand, and Sam (Rita) Bradley, all of Salinas, along with eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. He also leaves behind his beloved sisters, Thelma Young and Joyce (Bud) Cook. The family would like to thank Pacific Coast Care Center in Salinas for the magnificent care they provided Mr.Bradley in his final days. At his request, Mr. Bradley's remains have been creamated. A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at @ 2:00 P.M. at Valley Baptist Church, 320 Church St, Salinas. Memorials: American Cancer Society in honor of his granddaughter, who is breast cancer survivor.
