Obituary of Fr. Richard Bonjean

Father Richard Bonjean, a retired priest of the Monterey Diocese, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2009, in the presence of his beloved mother, Gen, and many friends. He was born October 24, 1934, in Peoria, Illinois. Father Rick lived a full and colorful life. After spending many years in social work; he moved on to a career working on a private yacht. He felt a strong and enduring call to the Priesthood for many years. Father Bonjean was ordained in February, 1976 at St. Francis Xavier Church in Seaside, California, where he had served as Deacon. He had parish assignments at the following churches; St. Joseph's in Capitola, San Carlos Cathedral in Monterey, Assumption Parish in Watsonville, and Santa Margarita Parish in Santa Margarita. He was also active in the St. Vincent de Paul Society Outreach Program, for the needy. He retired prios to moving to Salinas in 1998. After which he served as a Chaplain to hospitals and rest homes. His many friends will remember him well for the depth of his spirituality and concern for the needs of others.
