Dorothy Neighbors

Obituary of Dorothy Neighbors

Dorothy Mae Neighbors, 89 and long-time resident of Salinas, CA died December 18, 2009 after a brief illness. Family and friends would like to thank her dedicated caregivers and close friends who stood by her side daily during her last years. Dorothy worked for more than 30 years as a waitress and dining room manager of the historic Cominos Hotel in Salinas, CA where she met her late husband, Buell Neighbors (Head of Garage at the Cominos Hotel). She lived as a child in the Great Depression, an experience that provided her and those who learned from her with many important life lessons. Dorothy’s keen and curious mind helped her to explore, and to enjoy, much of the better things life had to offer -- as evidenced by her passionate love of dancing and her enthusiasm for her favorite singer, Robert Merrill. Her friends and family have paid this tribute to her, ‘Dorothy was one of the kindest, liveliest and most loving persons you could ever meet, she opened her heart and cared for many over the years and she will be sorely missed.’ Dorothy was born June 10, 1920 in Bennett, Texas. Daughter to John and Lily Jobe. Dorothy is preceeded in death by her late husband Buell Neighbors of over 40 years and her three brothers Clifford, J.D., and Dave Jobe and beloved grandson Charles Lee Vacker. Dorothy is survived by her two sons Charles Robert Vacker of Granbury, TX and Clifford Lee Vacker of Isleton, CA and five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
