Grace Amelia Sofranko was born in Sheffield, AL on March 17, 1922. She was the 7th daughter and the 13th child born to her mother, Dora Williams in a blended family that totaled 22 children. Her early years were spent in Alabama and Tennessee and she moved to Detroit, MI to live with a half sister during her high school years. There she met Edward Sofranko and they were married in 1941. He served in the Pacific arena during WWII and during that time, a son, Eddie was born. After a brief time in Florida, Ed & Grace settled in the Detroit area and added a daughter, Kathy to their family. Ed worked for 27 years with the Shell Oil Co. and Grace managed their home. They were transferred to CA in 1964 and later to Hawaii in 1970. Shortly after returning to CA, Ed retired. After many years of retirement in San Luis Obispo, CA, they moved to Chico to be closer to their daughter. Grace was a member of Bidwell Presbyterian Church and active in the Presbyterian Women's fellowship. Edward died in 2004. Grace moved to Carmel, CA with her daughter and husband in 2008. She will be remembered as a devoted wife and mother and a woman of deep religious faith.
