Obituary of Cresencia Luz

Cresencia Aranilla Luz, a former long-time resident of Salinas, passed away on February 2 at the age of 86. Cresencia, who was born on September 17, 1923 in Lucena, Quezon City, Philippines, was a registered nurse at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital in Salinas for 28 years. She came to the United States in 1957, and was married to local Filipino pioneer and leader, Manuel L. Luz, in 1959. Along with her husband, she was a member of various Filipino civic organizations including the Filipino Community of Salinas Valley, Fil-Visayan Association, Civic League Association, the Laoaguenians, and the Filipino Nurses Association. At the time of her death, she was retired and living in Hemet, California. Cresencia is survived by her sons, Rhubardo Bigay of Concord, Fred Bigay of Hemet, Manuel Luz Jr. of Sacramento, and Marcel Luz of Sisters, Oregon. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. She took great joy and pride in her fifteen grandchildren. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Healey Mortuary. Visitation will be held at the Mortuary on Sunday, February 14, from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. A mass will be celebrated at Madonna del Sasso Church on Monday, February 15 at 10:00 a.m. Internment will follow at the Garden of Memories Cemetery.
