I first met Carlos Magpusao in the early 1990's when his youngest son, Allan, and I became friends. Carlos (Dad), always made me feel like an adored member of his family. I have shared many family gatherings over the years as a direct result of the legacy Carlos established. I last shared time with Carlos in June of 2008. I had come by to visit before I relocated to Hawaii. Carlos welcomed me with a warm handshake, conversation and of course an offering of food. As we began to talk, he first asked if I had gone by to visit Mom (his wife, Pauline). I replied that I had not made it over yet to see here but that I would see Mom afterward. I made Carlos aware of the fact that I had gotten married recently. My Wife, Hazelle, is Filipina, which sparked a wonderful conversation with Carlos. He sat me down in the kitchen, offered me more food (again). As we began to talk about my wife and the Philippines, Carlos reached into a drawer and brought out photos of his brothers and sisters. This was indeed a special moment as Carlos shared many stories of his young life in the Philippines and details about his own siblings. We continued to talk about life, sports (SF Giants) and what I was doing with my life. After about 2hrs, our talk ended. Before I left, he called his wife, Pauline, whom was at another of their family homes; Carlos told Mom that he was sending me over to visit her. This was the type of man Carlos was. He was genuinely interested in the lives of those he loved and knew. I have great sorrow for his passing, but even greater joy, love and thankfulness for the time, and careful attention he extended to me for these many years. I love you, Dad.
Thank you for loving me.
