Obituary of Pedro Toves

Life Legacy Pedro "Pete" Fegurgur Toves, 83, passed away on August 22, 2017 in Salinas. He came from a large family of 14 children, seven brothers and seven sisters. He was the oldest son and the second oldest child. He loved to cook and loved to barbeque, but he never liked to rush his cooking because he always put his special touch and love into his cooking, which is why everything that he made tastes so good. After graduating high school he enlisted in the Army which he proudly served for 27 years. He earned several medals which included Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, 7th Award, National Defense Service Medal w/ 10LC, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Gallantry Cross w/ Palm (Unit), Vietnam Gallantry Cross w/ Silver Star, Army Occupational Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and Drill Instructor’s Identification Badge. Pete’s life was characterized by honor and service. He became a Drill Sergeant and completed two tours in the Vietnam War were he sacrificed his life to serve for our country. He honorably retired as a Command Sergeant Major on November 30, 1978. During his military life, he married Maria L. Francisco and had 3 children, Deborah (Debbie), Robert and Tina. Later in life he remarried Elizabeth (Liz) San Agustin. She has 3 daughters Dora, Debra (Debbie) and Dorothy who became his stepdaughters. He is survived by his beloved wife of 17 years Elizabeth, his children Deborah A. Toves, Tina L. Toves and daughter-in-law Frances Toves. Stepdaughters Dora San Agustin, Debra San Agustin (her children William Gonzalez, II, Remina Gonzalez and Romeo Gonzalez) and Dorothy Deville (her children Joseph E. Deville, Jr., Jalena E. Deville, Francisco Estrada and Isaiah E. San Agustin). He is also survived by 3 grandchildren Robert Anthony Toves II, Rodney Pete Toves and Kai Alexio Toves. He also leaves behind his sisters and brother, Anita San Nicolas, Priscilla Taitague, Patsy Amen, Rosita San Nicolas, Doris Weaver and Arthur Toves. He preceded in death by his parents, Agustin & Maria Toves, son Robert Anthony Toves, brothers Alfred Toves, Joseph Toves, Alvin Toves, Franklin Toves, Percy Toves, sisters Maria (Mariakita) Toves and Cecilia Camacho. “He will be greatly missed here on Earth, but one day we will all see him again.” Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 1-9pm with a Rosary vigil at 7pm, all at Healey Mortuary 405 N. Sanborn Rd Salinas, CA 93905. Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday, August 31, 2017 10am at Madonna del Sasso Church 320 E. Laurel Dr. Salinas, CA 93906. Burial with Military Honors to follow at the Queen of Heaven Cemetery 18200 Damian Way Salinas, CA 93907.
