Obituary of Noah Encallado

Noah Taporco Encallado Noah Taporco Encallado, 75, of Salinas passed away peacefully following a very brief battle with cancer at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital on Thursday, June 10, 2010. He was surrounded by his beloved wife Grace of 57 years, their eight children, mother, brother, and his grandchildren. Noah was born on July 28, 1934, in Salinas. He was the eldest of 10 children. Noah attended Roosevelt Elementary School. He graduated from Salinas High School in 1952 where he was an outstanding athlete on the school’s football and basketball team. Upon graduation, Noah also attended Hartnell College. He also took up what would become his great and endearing passion for the game of golf. In the 1950’s and 1960’s Noah worked in the Agriculture Industry. He often traveled with his father, a Labor Contractor, during the harvest seasons. Noah came from a long line of Family Chefs’ that taught Noah the art of cooking. Among the many Restaurants that Noah worked locally as a Chef were the Italian Villa, Pub, and Mac's Cafe.Noah was well-known for his specialty dishes, among them were his famous soups, particularly his clam-chowder and minestrone. In the early 1970’s to 80’s, Noah owned and managed the HONEY BEE Coffee Shop on Salinas Street. His faithful followers and clientele included the Courthouse, Taxpayers, Accountants, Attorneys, Police, Sheriff and all the other establishments that make up the central business district of Salinas. The Restaurant was a staunch supporter of local area Pop Warner, North Salinas, and Hartnell College athletes. Coaches recognized players that were standouts in a weekly game to which they became recipients of the “Stinger” award. Those players were then entitled to receive one of Noah’s many specialty dishes. Noah was a long-time member of the Salinas Fairways Golf Course, and played with the infamous Bandits. Nicknamed “Smiley” due to his easy-going, carefree, and personal demeanor, Noah could often be seen on the course 5 or 6 days a week. Whether Noah won a skin or not, he continued to have that HUGE grin on his face as all bets were being settled at the clubhouse after the final round. Noah especially loved spending time with the youngest of his great-grandchildren Jasmine and Jade Encallado. Without fail, Noah always brought them a special treat each day before coming home from the course, and they looked forward to it.
