Obituary of Elaine Powell

Elaine Georgette Powell, 84, of Salinas passed away on June 15, 2010 in Salinas. She was born in San Francisco, CA and moved to Salinas at the age of four. She graduated from Salinas High School and attended Hartnell College. She was active in dance and tumbling while in high school and college. Elaine met her future husband, Marvin, through her best friend Velma, his sister, and they married on July4, 1948. They were married for 58 years, until his passing in 2006. In her spare time, she loved to camp, travel, play/watch sports, knit, do crafts, play cards and gamble. Elaine loved being a grandmother and enjoyed the company of her friends at the Alliance on Aging, Over the Rainbow, and Angelus Angels. She was a member of the Ladies Auxillary, VFW Post 6849. She is survived by Son, Marvin Wayne “Scooter” Powell, Jr. of Incline Village, Nevada; daughters; Laura Denise (Tim) Westmoreland of Morgan Hill, CA, Candice Elaine (John) Strong of La Feria, TX and Georgette Powell (David) of Salinas, CA; granddaughters, Tiffany Westmoreland (Robert) of San Jose, CA, Tracey Westmoreland of Morgan Hill, CA and Cherye Klockemann of Brownsville, TX.
