Obituary of Dale Beagley

William Beagley died December 12, 2007 at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital after complications from a brief battle with cancer. He was 69. Dale was born February 4, 1938 in Ardmore, OK and grew up in LaPlata, MO, where he married Phylis Jean Mossbarger of Gifford, MO in 1958. Dale earned his Bachelor of Science and Masters Degree from Kirksville Teachers College (Truman State University) and went on to pursue a career in teaching. In 1961 the family moved to Hanford, California where Dale coached basketball at Lemoore Naval Air Station. In 1968, the family moved to Guam where Dale taught physical education and coached basketball, archery, volleyball & swimming at the University of Guam. The family resided there until 1976 when they returned to California, this time to Salinas. Here Dale continued his love of teaching and coaching at Gonzales Middle School, Echo Valley and Gambetta Middle School in Castroville. A beloved teacher, coach and mentor, Dale had a passion for encouraging others to succeed and took joy in following their journey in life. He cherished his family above all and loved spending time with his sons and their families. He retired from teaching in 1999 to pursue his other joys which included golfing and going to car shows in his 1968 Mustang Fastback. Dale was noted for his warm, outgoing, friendly persona and thoroughly enjoyed meeting new people. Surviving are his wife, Phylis of Salinas, CA; son Brian and wife Robin of Peachtree City, GA, son Brett and wife Lise of Folsom, CA; and five grandchildren, Sarah, Jennifer, and Breanna, of Peachtree City, and, Emily and Braden of Folsom. Services will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, December 21, 2007 at Travis Funeral Chapel in La Plata, MO, with viewing just prior at noon. Memorials may be made to LaPlata Library and/or LaPlata School thru Travis Funeral Chapel or direct to the Salinas Public Library.
