Obituary of Dennis Dixon

Dr. Dennis D. Dixon, D.C. October 2, 1950 April 29, 2008 Dr. Dennis D. Dixon passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 29, 2008 at his home in Monterey, California. "Dr. Dennis," as he preferred to be called by his staff and patients, was a man larger than life. Although he was a very private person, he always had time for his patients, staff and family. Dr. Dennis was born in Provo, Utah and attended Weber State University and Utah State University. Upon graduation he attended the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic at it's Glendale campus, graduating with honors. In 1975, he and his brother, Dr. E. Reed Dixon, opened up Dixon Chiropractic Office where they have remained in practice for 30 years, along with associate Dr. Yojiro Iba, serving the Salinas community, providing quality chiropractic care to those in need. Dr. Dennis was a man of many talents. He was gifted musically, with language, and with his ability to take time to listen and communicate with his patients and those he associated with. He had a dry wit, which often brought a smile to the faces of those who were the beneficiaries of such. While in his younger years, he became an accomplished pianist, playing mostly for his personal enjoyment. When in high school, he was honored by being selected to play the coronet for the school dance band. He was able to use his Spanish language skills in sincerely communicating with his patients and helping them understand the deluge of paper work that often is thrown one's way by various participants in the healthcare system. His compassion for others often lead to the spending of many hours in phone consultations, letter writing and reporting to try and express the patient's point of view with respect to their personal and unique health problems, with him often providing pro bono care for those who had "fallen through the cracks of the system." He was truly appreciated and loved by his patients, friends and family. He was an uncle to his loyal and long-time office manager, Yazmin. Dr. Dennis always had a soft spot in his heart for animals, and especially cats. His long time companion "Spook" has brought him many hours of laughter and joy, WHICH only an adoring pet can do. He is survived by his practice partner and brother, Dr. E. Reed Dixon, and his associate, Dr. Yojiro Iba. He also leaves behind his mother, Jean D. Dixon and three other siblings, Dr. Larry D. Dixon, Roger D. Dixon and Jeannine D. Lasky. Dr. Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Eldon. As per his wishes, he was cremated and no memorial service was held. His ashes will be scattered in his favorite place, the Monterey Bay, at a later time. Dr. Dennis' kind and gentle soul will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
