Obituary of Gayle Hagman

Gayle F. Hagman passed away peacefully on Monday, May 12, at Pacific Coast Care Center in Salinas. Born in Mulberry, Kansas, to Frank and Mary Yasbec, she was one of four children. After completing business college, she spent her early single years as a highly-trained legal secretary for a Topeka attorney firm. For fourteen years, she also worked as an accountant for a Midwestern produce brokerage. She and her future husband, Charles M. Hagman, enjoyed a ten-year friendship before marrying, a marriage that lasted for forty-four years until his death in 1985. During his 27-year career as an officer in the U. S. Army, he served in WW II and the Korean War. They lived in numerous locations, including Washington State, Kansas, Texas, Virginia, Germany, and California. They and their two children, Linda Gayle and Gary Charles, were blessed with the opportunity to visit most of the United States and thirteen European countries. Upon retiring from the Army, they settled in Salinas in 1964. Gayle actively helped Charles as he built a new career with the New York Life Insurance Company. The couple loved their home, but continued to travel all over the world—to Australia, New Zealand, the Netherlands, the Scandinavian Countries, England, Vietnam, Hong Kong and Malaysia. Gayle participated, sometimes for decades, as a member of the Salinas Women's Club, Sacred Heart Church, the Young Ladies' Institute (Ignatius Chapter #85), Active Seniors, Inc., First Presbyterian Church "Friendship Club", the Fort Ord Wives Club, the National Retired Officer's Association, and the National Federation of Republican Women. Gayle is survived by her daughter, Linda (Steve) Blumenthal of Salinas, Gary Charles Hagman of San Francisco, and granddaughter Geneva Blumenthal of Salinas.
