Billie "Bill" Dial April 8, 1928 – February 28, 2011 Bill Dial, 82, was born in Slaton, Texas April 8, 1928 to J. T. and Margery Ozell Dial. Bill passed away peacefully in his sleep at Emeritus- Harden Ranch in Salinas, California. He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife of 58 years, Gloria, and two children, Mark Dial of Eugene, OR and Steve Dial of Stockton, CA, and three grandchildren, Nicholas Dial of Eureka, CA, Christopher Dial of Stockton, CA and Allison Dial of Stockton, CA. Bill was a 37 year veteran of the Salinas Fire Department where “Captain Bill” was a leader, mentor and role model for firefighters for over three decades. After retiring from the fire department, Bill used his considerable handyman skills in his own business known as “Dial Does It”. “Dial Does It” was more than a business name, it was a fact. When he took on a project, it was done, and done right whether it was installing a new garage door, remodeling a room or re-roofing a house. Bill loved to fish and enjoyed the outdoors whether it was deep sea fishing, camping in Sierras or driving around Alaska by himself. Bill adored Gloria and supported her in all of her activities including Crimestoppers of Monterey County. Bill was a lifelong San Francisco Giants fan. Bill served in the Coast Guard at the end of World War II in the Pacific theater. Friends and family are invited to attend visitation Friday, March 4, 2011 from 1p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Healy Mortuary at 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas, CA. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 3p.m. at Healy Mortuary at 405 N. Sanborn Road, Salinas, CA.
