Marianna Stein

Obituary of Marianna Stein

Marianna Stein was embraced by the arms of God on March 4, 2011 after many years of suffering from Alzheimer's disease. Marianna was born on September 3, 1927 to James Henry and Hazel Vanita Moxley in Los Angeles. She was married to Bernard Stein on March 24, 1946. They were high school sweethearts, and would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Marianna was raised in a family of 4 girls with sisters Eileen, Vanita, and Alice. She had four sons: Keith, Kenneth, David and Erik. She prayed for a girl, and instead was rewarded with four daughters in law: Debbie, Robin, Jill and Katie, as well as six granddaughters (Karen, Kandace, Carrie, Megan, Sarah, and Ashley) two grandsons (Toby and Tyler), three great granddaughters (Halle, Allison, and Loralai) and four great grandsons (Blaine, Frankie, Josh, and Rhett.) Marianna was a full time mom for her first career. When she felt her boys were ready, she began a new career as a teacher's aid at Alisal Elementary School. She then worked in the school office and eventually for the Salinas City School District. She retired as the Secretary to the Superintendent when in her early 70's, proud to have worked for 3 superintendents. She was a most competent and capable secretary. She treasured her family, spent many summers with her sons in Arroyo Seco, worshipped faithfully every Sunday at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd and instructed her boys and grandchildren in the way of the Lord. She was a faithful wife and caring mother. Her fingerprints are on everyone she touched which provides comfort to all who love and mourn her. There will be a memorial service and celebration of her life at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd at 580 Larkin Street in Salinas on March 9 at 1 P.M. Graveside services have been held at Garden of Memories Cemetery 850 Abbott St. in Salinas, CA 93901. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to her church of 65 years, or their favorite charity.
