Obituary of Winford White

Winford "Win" Rhodes White, 91, longtime resident of Salinas, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus on April 21, 2012 after an unexpected injury in Salinas. Win was born on April 10,1921 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He began an 8 year career in the Navy at the age of 17 and after that began a lifelong career of a master watch and clock maker. He met his wife of 53 years, Mary Josie, in Chattanooga and moved to Salinas with their two children, Bill and Peg. Their third child, Dan, was born after they settled in Salinas. Win proudly served in the U.S. Navy and was a Pearl Harbor survivor during WWII. He was a member of the V.F.W. of Spreckels, Sons in Retirement, and the American Watch Makers Association. He was also an active member of the First Baptist Church of Salinas and of the Carmel Foundation, and the Wood Carving Club. Win will be deeply missed by his family and friends who knew and loved him. He was a man of few words, but his love for his family knew no boundaries. Win is survived by his daughter, Peggy (Glen) Heffington of Salinas sons, William (Carol) White of Washington and Daniel (Diane) White of Arizona sister, Helen Griffin of Chattanooga, Tennessee grandchildren, Wendy, George, Wes, Janice, Lauren, Kaitlyn and Braden great-grandchildren Jamison Kyle Aryanna Ashlynne He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary J. White, in May, 2001. A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 2pm at the First Baptist Church of Salinas 1130 San Vicente Salinas, CA 93901.
