Obituary of George Gilliam
George "Junior" Gilliam, Jr. of Salinas, age 80, passed away peacefully surrounded with love on Friday, April 24, 2009, after a brief illness.
George was born on November 8, 1928 in Charleston, Arkansas to George Gilliam, Sr. and Hattie Barnes Gilliam. He was a resident of Salinas for 64 years. George moved here at the age of 16 traveling by train with his parents and three sisters. The family arrived here on April 6, 1945, joining other relatives living here. After 30 years of service, George retired in 1994 from Gieg's Truck Terminal. He missed working with the public so he worked part-time at Curtis' Beacon on North Main Street. He retired again in 1999. He and his wife attended Northside Assembly of God Church, and enjoyed visiting with family and friends and pulling jokes on them.
George was a member of the Moose Lodge for a number of years. After retiring, he volunteered at the Food Bank for Montery County as well as Meals on Wheels.

After Funeral Services, a Gathering will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall located at: 270 Rianda Street in Salinas.
