Obituary of Guadalupe Chavira Estrada

Guadalupe Chavira Estrada, 88, of Salinas, California, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2018, surrounded by his loved ones.  Guadalupe was born to Pilar Estrada and Julia Chavira de Estrada on October 28, 1929, in Grand Morelos, Chihuahua, Mexico. 

He was a self-taught man and came to the United States as a bracero to make a living to support him and his siblings.  He took on jobs that involved traveling to many parts of the United States and worked the fields and transportation of produce.  He found his calling working in the AG industry in California where he met and married Juana Villalobos in 1959.  They settled and raised a family together in Salinas, California.

He was a loving father and husband.  A gentle, kind man and enjoyed life and the company of family and anyone that he met.   He enjoyed figuring out how to fix things and build things.  He was always up for any challenge.  He loved watching baseball, boxing and playing games.  In the last eight years of his life, he battled a lengthy illness and was overtaken by complications with diabetes.

He is survived by his wife Juana Estrada. He also leaves as his legacy nine children: Hilda Villegas (Robert), Julia Estrada, Irma Barr (Brian), Ana Fowler, Guadalupe Estrada Jr., Lydia Estrada, Eva Tankesley, Terri Estrada, Elsa Estrada; grandchildren: Jeffrey Rodriguez, Andre Estrada, Kelsey Tankesley, Kyle Tankesley, Sarah Villegas and great-granddaughter, Adalynn Tankesley.  

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018 1-9pm at Healey Mortuary 405 N. Sanborn Rd Salinas, CA  93905.

Chapel Blessing on Friday, Oct. 5, 2018 12 noon at the Healey Mortuary Chapel.

Burial to follow services at the Garden of Memories Cemetery 850 Abbott St. Salinas, CA  93901.
