Obituary of Josephine Gloria Ruiz

Josephine Gloria Ruiz passed away on August 14, 2019 at Windsor the Ridge in Salinas, California. She was born on December 5, 1938 to Joseph and Lottie Ruiz of Castroville, California. Josephine was known by her family as “Sister”

Josephine is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Lottie Ruiz; her sister Dorothy Lathum; her brothers Robert, Joseph, Joseph A, and John Ruiz.  Josephine is survived by her sister Susan Pere (John) of Prunedale, her brother-in-law Don Lathum of Salinas, her nieces, Tammie Ferguson, Charlotte Mayfield, Cheryl Ruiz,

Michelle Williams, Debbie Monroe and Juanita Ruiz; her nephews Darrin Ruiz, Roger Monroe, Jimmie Lathum, John Ruiz Jr, Steve Ruiz and Jimmy Monroe; Numerous Great and Great Great nieces and nephews (two of them being her special angels here on earth her Great niece Jessica and Great Great niece Lucie); her Cousins Richard Gonzales, Fermin Avila, Donna and Diane Carroll, Patty Garcia and Richard and Christina Gonzales and their children.

Josephine “Sister” attended Castroville schools. She spent her younger years assisting her mother by caring for her younger siblings. She later became the CEO of their household and had a passion for cleaning everything inside and out. Josephine enjoyed her outings and her travels to San Francisco, Reno, Las Vegas and to Disneyland. She loved sharing her life’s adventures and her wisdom with her family.

Her last 16 months were spent at Windsor Skyline were she made friends, received a new nickname “Josie” and enjoyed her new found passion for spiritual time where she was known as the cheerleader.  It was there that she learned of her hidden talent for artwork, painting, music time and exercise time including her new enjoyment of Zumba. She will be greatly missed for her feisty and unique sense of humor and laughter.
