Merlyn Green

Obituary of Merlyn Arthur Green

In the early morning hours of December 24, 2021, Merlyn passed away very peacefully at home in Salinas, California. He was born in Minneapolis, MN, to Arthur and Myrtle Green. He was loved and is survived by Susan, his wife of 56 years; brother Douglas (Doris) of Fremont; sister Naomi (William Patton) of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; as well as many nieces and nephews.

In 1950 the family moved from Minnesota to Tujunga, California where Merlyn graduated high school and signed up for a tour in the Coast Guard. He graduated from Valley State College (now California State University at Northridge) as a music major, and enjoyed teaching at Monterey and Salinas High Schools, while Susan taught at El Sausal Junior High.

Since teachers have time off in the summer, it became travel time and an opportunity to enjoy showing at AKC dog shows across the country with the Silky Terriers and Dandie Dinmont Terriers in the family.

Back health issues prompted him to receive chiropractic care from Dr. Marshall Renbarger, his father-in-law and Salinas D.C., Dr. Paul Farrell. Feeling the excellent results of his natural care, Merlyn decided to change course and study for his D. C. degree at Palmer Chiropractic College/West in San Jose, and was part of its 1st graduating class. He spent 24 wonderful years in his Salinas practice during which he was honored to serve a term as CCA President (California Chiropractic Association) and as a Board Member of Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa.

After retirement, as Merlyn continued to enjoy travel, he was privileged to add showing Miniature Pinschers for a longtime friend along with the family’s Dandies. As a longtime member of Del Monte Kennel Club, he was privileged to serve for many years as DMKC’s AKC Delegate.

In the near future, the family will participate in the “Scattering of Ashes” (Burial at Sea) in the waters of Monterey County.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Palmer College of Chiropractic, your local SPCA, or to a dog rescue organization.

A “Celebration of Life” will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at 1:00pm at Cypress Community Church, 681 Salinas/Monterey Highway (Hwy 68) at the Corral de Tierra stoplight.
