Sallie Fuqua

Obituary of Sallie Irene Fuqua

Sallie Irene Fuqua, 92, lifelong resident of Salinas, passed peacefully away on the morning of November, 30, 2022. She was born to Joyce and Lester Anderson on May, 30, 1930.  Born in Culver City, Sallie moved to Salinas with her family in 1944.  She graduated from Salinas High School and shortly after married her sweetheart and fellow SHS grad, Ron Fuqua, Sr. Together, they raised their 3 children and enjoyed 66 years of marriage spent devoted to their family and supporting one another and their community. Sallie was a dedicated homemaker and loved cooking and gardening.  She was an accomplished seamstress and delighted in seeing her various projects enjoyed by her family. She loved painting, card games and traveling the world with Ron for various sporting trips and adventurous and extended cruises.

Sallie made many a friend in Salinas, but the best of which came through her decades long membership in the Salinas Chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.  Her life was enriched by this sisterhood and together they supported many causes in the community, including years of event catering and cooking for the Steinbeck House.

Above all, Sallie’s passion was for her family.  Even in her final days, she loved to tell stories of her childhood and her 5 siblings.  She delighted in watching her own family grow and took a special joy from her time caring for her 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Sallie is survived by her sons, Ron Jr. (Patricia) and Earl (Bevelyn); 5 grandchildren (Aaron, Jennifer, Alyssa, Nolan & Greyson) and 7 great grandchildren (Matthew, Kate, Elizabeth, Abby, Thomas, Fallon & Rowan) as well as other loving family members and friends. She was proceeded in death by her parents, siblings, daughter, Marsha Fuqua Thorup, and beloved husband, Ron.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Windsor Skyline Care Center for the loving care provided to Sallie over the last year.

A private Memorial Service will be held Friday, December 23rd.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Salinas High School Athletics Booster Club, 1172 S.
