Rosemarie Pohl

Obituary of Rosemarie Pohl

Rosemarie Pohl was born on June 12th, 1947 near Frankfurt/Main, West Germany. Her parents were Alma and Willy Schneider. She has one older brother, Klaus.

She grew up in the suburbs of North Frankfurt and received her trade school education in accounting. Growing up, Rosemarie was always involved in a variety of sports such as ice-skating, skiing and gymnastics competitions. She has always loved to dance in addition to gardening, arts and crafts, and reading.

Rosemarie grew up in the aftermath of World War II and this upbringing made her acutely aware of the deep scars such an event leaves in people’s lives. She realized at an early age that every adult around her was a survivor and every survivor went through emotional or physical pain. People worked 6 days a week to make life better. The churches were filled during those Sundays.

She was raised, christened and confirmed in a French reformed church. During the 60s and 70s as the German economy grew, people’s lifestyle became more comfortable and churches emptier. People walked away from God and so did she at that time.

In the early 70s Rosemarie married and started a family. She has one son, Oliver, born in 1973 and one daughter, Stefanie, born in 1976. In 1980, the Pohl Family emigrated to the USA due to her husband’s job transfer. Starting a new life in the States was very exciting and interesting learning experience for Rosemarie. She fell in love with the diversity of the Bay Area and the natural beauty and weather here in California.

After a series of circumstances in the early 90s, God got a hold of her again. She found herself attending the “Church of God” in San Jose. This was where she accepted Christ and started to grow as a Christian. Due to more life changes Rosemarie moved to Pacific Grove in the late 90’s and attended “First Church of God,” where she began volunteering wherever she was needed.

She met Edwin in 2001 and they fell in love and stayed together the remainder of her life. Together they went on many adventures and trips all around the country. She loved being able to go and see all the wonder and beauty of nature and share it with those she loved. She lived her life full of passion for her loved ones, for traveling and exploring new places, and activities such as hiking, roller skating, swimming and ice skating. She also loved to dance. She always wanted to be where the music was and dance, laugh, and dance some more.

Rosemarie ran Fine Woodworking of Carmel with locations in Carmel and Cannery Row. Rosemarie also worked for the Monterey County Public Guardian for a number of years before she retired. She was a member of the Monterey Women of the Moose Lodge and the Seaside American Legion Auxiliary.

Rosemarie was one of the most wonderful and beautiful people you could ever have the fortune of meeting and knowing. She had incredible inner strength and was humble, kind, courageous, adventurous, compassionate, and full of love for her family. She was born June 12th, 1947 and died August 19th 2023 after losing a long hard battle with cancer. She is survived by her son Oliver (Isa), her daughter Stefanie, her partner Edwin and his son Jonathan as well as her 5 grandchildren Josslynn, Caelan, Siu-Lin, Logan, and Griffin. God needed another angel and so called back one of his best. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

Service will held at First Church of God 1023 David Ave, Pacific Grove @11:00 AM on September 23rd.
