It's interesting to read an obituary. Muriel was indeed a beautiful person inside and out and I am grateful to have known her. Her hair, makeup, and home were tidy and she was smiling and interested. She was there for me at a time when I really needed it. I met her daughter, Rosanne, at college. Rosanne would get long handwritten letters from her mom in her mailbox at the dorm. The following summer, I went home with Rosanne and stayed with Muriel and worked in a celery field, which enabled me to save money to go back to school. She raised competitive, educated, capable children, and political discussions were lively. She kept in touch with me and sent me handwritten cards and letters on my birthdays and holidays. When I lived in San Jose, I would visit and stayed with her when she had a cast on each leg. She loved her family, dogs, art, politics, piano, computer, plants, genealogy, Papa Murphy's pizza, bagels, and Death by Chocolate ice cream. Muriel valued her independence and had her home and car modified so she could be self sufficient. When she could no longer care for herself, it was important to her to stay in her own home and Rosanne helped her achieve that goal.

Hello Mom, today would have been your 87th birthday. You passed away almost three months ago to the day. I miss not being able to share your birthday with you, and spending a little time talking about your day, my day, the family, and life in general. I love you, and I miss you. We all do.

Aunt Muriel was and is my heroine! When I was in college I had to write a paper on a person that I most admired. That person because of her pursuit of excellence, determination to overcome obstacles and her ability to make you always consider the other side of any given discussion was my Aunt Muriel. Aunt Muriel always gave us Life Saver Books of candy at Christmas time, a birthday card with $5 every year and always made you feel special when you spoke to her.
She gave me a children’s book when I had my first child, the book helped you understand that we are all different with different capabilities not handicaps. I believe she helped me not be a victim to circumstances but a survivor and a strong woman that can, because of Aunt Muriel’s example, overcome any obstacle.
Thank you Aunt Muriel for being a woman of character and principles - you will never be forgotten! Much love and enduring love.

Muriel was definitely one of a kind. Her fortitude and perseverance was by far unrivaled by anyone I've ever met. Her beautiful obituary outlines a small portion of what I personally saw over the years as she always fought for her convictions. She was a stellar of strength and a wonderful woman that I was happy to have met. Deepest condolences to the entire family during this difficult time. Janet Barnes

That’s an amazing obituary and oh so true. I didn’t know Aunt Muriel all that well because I was young when I recall seeing her, but I recall being amazed at how strong and exuberant this woman was that could drive a car with only her hands. Her smile was bright and infectious, and one of the traits I remembered most about her. Her personality definitely came through as someone taking life by the horns, and not someone that was a victim of her circumstances.

So many memories of Aunt Muriel coming to visit, and the fun times that we would have playing with our cousins. She really was a Superwoman. I never once saw her let her disability hold her back from doing anything that she wanted to do. She was amazing. Thank you Aunt Muriel for all the childhood memories that I have of you & my cousins. Rest In Peace. Love, your nephew Stuart.
